Soul Sisters since 2015
Our story began back in 2011 at Angie’s Saturday morning Zumba class at the Oakland YMCA. After every class, we’d linger to chat — and before long, we discovered how much we had in common and became fast friends!
By 2015, Judy was inspired to take her love of Zumba to the next level and became a certified instructor, soon teaching Sunday mornings at the Y. From then on, we supported each other’s classes — often showing up in matching outfits for extra fun!
One day, we decided to team up and host our very first Zumbathon charity event, partnering with other local instructors. It was a huge success, raising thousands of dollars for a small non-profit and filling the room with incredible energy and joy. We were hooked!
We kept teaching and hosting annual Zumbathons together every year — until the world paused in 2020. But the spirit of our friendship and the joy of dancing together? That’s still going strong! 💖
responding to the pandemic
When the world shut down in 2020, we didn’t skip a beat! 💪 On March 20, 2020, we launched our virtual classes straight from Angie’s backyard, determined to keep our community moving, connected, and uplifted during lockdown. What started as a temporary solution turned into a lasting mission — and we showed up every single day, through every challenge, teaching both online and in person to keep the energy alive.
Along the way, we took things a step further by establishing our own 501(c)(3) non-profit, allowing us to give back in an even bigger way. To date, we’ve proudly donated over $55,000 to local organizations in need — all thanks to the incredible support and spirit of our community! 💖
